Defacing Milton Friedman: Capitalism and (Un) Freedom

The event will be part of a direct action against the neo-liberal ideology, which is seen by many, to be the main cause of current global economic crisis. Directly influenced by Naomi Klein and Noam Chomsky’s critiques, this undeviating approach will attack the pervasive and pernicious thought and writing of Milton Friedman. We see the global economic crisis as being induced by the policies influenced by these writings, and so feel the need to make public, our dislike for the Chicago school and all neo-liberal policy.

In Klein’s book, Shock Doctrine, she critiques Milton’s ideology and the principles that guided the economic crisis that followed the military coups in countries such as Indonesia and Chile. Drawing analogies in the way that Milton proposed using the social ‘shock’ of the coups to create an economic ‘blank slate’. This is similar to Ewan Cameron’s controversial medical experiments that used electro shock therapy to create a mental ‘blank slate’ for people with mental disorders. Based on the extent to which liberal policies have contributed to income disparages and inequalities both Klein and Chomsky have suggested that the primary role of neo liberalism is a cover for multi-national corporations.

Cháchara describes itself as “a talk at a given place and time”. Homesession is glad to be this given place and to receive, with Cháchara’s organizers, three British artists on Thursday, February 9: Maurice CarlinGary Leddington and David Price share an evening with us, just at the beginning of their residency at La Escocesa, to talk about their interests.

Like in every Cháchara, we invite people to share things that don’t relate with their practice at all (or maybe they do) and we’ll spend the evening eating delicious quiches.

Low Lives OCCUPY

‘On March 3rd, 2012, Low Lives: Occupy! an international platform designed to enable artists, audiences, and presenters in alliance with the Occupy movement to support the occupation, will transmit live performances, actions, and happenings online as they occur in real time around the world. Participating artists, artist collectives, Occupy groups, and presenters worldwide will expand the reach and visibility of the Occupy protests by broadcasting to an international community and audiences. The Occupy protests, and the myriad of perspectives and experiences related to this unique moment, will be amplified, explored, and experimented with, through Low Lives’ internet-based creative platform. Low Lives: Occupy! recognizes the powerful opportunity that is the presentation of performances from around the world, and invites artists to open eyes and minds by presenting a radical re-imagining of possible ways of existing and relating.’

Isn’t it evident?

An independent commission has been set up to examine the impact of increased tuition fees in England.

A panel led by the writer and Oxford University principal Will Hutton will work closely with the university admissions body Ucas.

It says it will look especially at the effect of higher fees on young people from low and middle income backgrounds.

In context, isn’t it obvious that an increase in cost will create a negative response?

A metaphor comes to mind that has the words Kicking, whilst and down within it.

For all of you who are at university, going to go to university or just want to think outside of the system then you need this from the UFSO;

University is all about turning tricks, anyway. Isn’t it? Is it? Should it be? Partly? Is the knowledge brothel really safer than the street corner? Anyway, we don’t hate the university. In fact, we are some of its biggest fans, which is why we want it to stop being a dick. Or a pissing contest. Or a madame, a pimp. A prophylactic against wage slavery maybe. Anyway, anyway, welcome, welcome, friends, foes, strangers and even strangerers, to the radical – so radical it’s fucking bodacious – student handbook for students, etc….

You need the Student Hand Job, click the link below to bet the best Hand Job (Pardon the pun) your academic eyes have ever seen.
